I have visited this delightful little, somewhat rustic, cafe at Queenscliff a few times. It is at the top of the heart attack stairs on either side - you either walk up from Queenscliff or Freshwater - either staircase is murder haha. Most times I am passing Angel I am trying to breathe and my face is usually bright red covered in sweat haha. I often long to be inside with a nice glass of wine eating some delectable morsels as opposed to trying to be healthy - but I am totally babbling........
The venue is fantastic, the staff are decent and not overly involved in your table. My last visit - where these pics came from was for a birthday party group - our group booked out the back, covered, deck. It has fantastic views over Fairlight and is incredibly light and bright - it is an epic place to to kick back, catch up with mates, drink some beverages and feast. And feast we did.
The 6 hour braised wagyu beef cheek wontons in a Singapore laksa broth with kaffir lime leaves was the birthday girl's favourite dish and the only dish she orders when she visits - she orders this entree in a main serving. I enjoyed the sauteed lemon pepper prawn cutlets on zucchini noodle pancakes with lemonaise & vinegar caramel for my entree and would happily indulge again. It could do with more of the lemon pepper - but this is my personal taste, I would make the dish with lemon myrtle - but it's not my dish to make :).
As for mains me and my table mate shared two mains to taste a better coverage. My beef striploin
with balsamic red cabbage, chive mash & cabernet jus was deeeeeelish and cooked perfectly but the grilled john dory with caponata, sicilian olive tapenade & hommus didn't really work flavour-wise for either of us. And as for dessert - I loved loved loved the coconut, mango and lime pannacotta.
They do breakfast lunch and dinner on most days and the most expensive meal is $32- so the place is quite affordable. The only downside is they are fully licensed - no BYO. See less
