Ash & Rye took over the premises of the former Cornerstone of Northcote. I’m mighty glad they did. I popped in for a quick coffee a couple of weeks ago. It was a very promising start. Lovely coffee, lovely service. I then returned for a quick brunch. I like the compact menu. Cornerstone always seemed far more style than substance to me. Ash and Rye are fully correcting that situation. I had a toastie here that sent me into ecstasy. Ham, cheese and chili jam. Beautifully toasted. Nice salad too. It was utterly delicious in every respect. The ham was outstanding. The cheese was off the scale tasty. The bread was gorgeous too. The whole thing was soft, good and completely full of flavour. Not just food. It’s art. Only a toastie but what a cracking one. I cannot wait to go back and try something else. See less

Wonderful discovery in Northcote. The new owners have reinvigorated the menu with dishes catered to the tastes of the locals very well. I loved the coconut chia pudding for breakfast and the fried chicken waffles. My partner and I go back at least once a month for a weekend breakfast. I also stop by on my morning commute to pick up a soy latte on the way to the train. Their toaster sourdough sandwiches and croissants are to die for! See less
