I’ve been searching for years to find a fish and chips takeaway that I actually like, tonight I have finally found it. I believe this is the best takeaway in Canberra. The fish was immaculate, it was crumbed perfectly and the quality of the fish was nice. Definitely going back here again See less

I used to think all takeaway shops were basically the same, until I was recommended to try Bernie's by a friend. It really is quite amazing, their food taste noticeably better than others, their service was friendly and efficient. Their shop decor could perhaps use an update, but honestly when you have great food and great service, everything else is minor. See less

Always excellent! We get their fish and chips almost every week. It's a proper specialist fish n chips shop, no kebabs, pizza etc, they do just one thing and do it very well. Highly recommend the Blue Grenadier. See less

Good fish'n'chips for Canberra. But they don't do phone orders; they say they do but they don't actually start to cook it until you arrive. So tonight it's a 1 hour wait for phone orders and 15minutes for walk-ins. Good food, service is suffering. UPDATE - Thanks to the owner for responding, it's good to see that they are encouraging people to walk in to their shop and congregate; with COVID19 happening. It was also inspiring to see the owner not once ask a customer to check in with the Check In CBR app, I probably missed the displayed QR code? So even though the health advice for the past 12 months has been to encourage phone in and collect ordering for takeaway venues; good on Bernie's for flaunting this advice and shame on me for trying to comply. Strange to think Canberra is no where near the ocean and yet, best fish and chips ever!! We've had Bernie's a dozen times now and it's always fresh and delicious. Fantastic selection of seafood. My fish, calamari and prawn cutlets were excellent. Service was also very good, but phone contact is a little problematic. However, the quality of the seafood and the cooked versions more than make up for any such issues. See less

It was an hour wait for fish and chips the night we went. When we finally got our order we headed home to enjoy it, only to find that the fish was overcooked and dry. I think if they weren't so ridiculously understaffed it would have been a better experience. They do the old fashioned chips which were fantastic. We'll leave it a while and try again. See less

Fresh fish, light and non-greasy batter, generous serve of nicely cooked chips, lots of fresh lemon and price is fair too. Staff is friendly. Will order again and strongly recommend this place. See less

EXCELLENT!!! The most delicious fish and chips we have had for a long time. We ordered the family meal. The fish was a beautiful texture and so tasty. The chips were beautiful and crispy as were the potato scallops. Bernie was so friendly helping us sort our order. Thank you for such a delicious meal we enjoyed it SO MUCH. Highly recommended. Ordered grilled and crumbed cod. Paid $10 per piece! Not cod at all. Supposed to be fresh but very obviously frozen from Vietnam or somewhere similar. I had been a fresh fish shop owner for many years and know what I am talking about which is why I asked what fresh fish was available when I put in my phone order. Inedible and just completely false advertising. When I called to enquire why I was given frozen fish that was obviously not cod, the girl I spoke to said I would have to catch my own fish for it to be fresh and what I wanted, so they are obviously ripping customers off without any concerns what so ever. Unbelievable and very poor form and customer service. Don't bother. Go to the markets and get your own. I was hopeful that there may have been an honest takeaway that did nice fish and chips but unfortunately these people are liars who have no intentions of serving customers honestly. See less
