The character of this place is great and it has an intimate 1920s vibe. The food is bang on average. The service is attentive. The indoor tables are well spaced so even when it gets busy you can still hear/chat with your company. See less

Its always a questionable indicator when surrounding restaurants are full and one is empty but i gave them a go. I ordered a glass of house red (14 Dollars charged and sirloin 38 dollars) The wine came fast enough also the steak unfortunately it was "firm" although ccoked well enough it was hard cutting and chewing. The female waitress seemed more engaged with chats behind bar despite several attempts to get eye contact to order another glass failed Probably just as well at 14 dollars a glass)( I have receipt) No one asked how the meal was as in every restaurant i've been to.On paying the bill no inquiry on the meal enjoyment Overall the staff seem not engaged more liking social interaction with friends and colleagues in a service industry it explains why the restaurant was empty 1t 730 on sunday night. I love the vibe of this place. It is so rare to find something with such an old, vibrant atmosphere. You can see the love put into this place, and the attention to detail. I went there with my mum on a whim, and it has quickly become a favourite. They are expensive, but what isn't these days? We had the salmon & mash, and the duck risotto, and the food was delicious! The service was lovely, we even tipped the servers. And the bathroom area is so unlike anything I've seen, it's lovely to see history still alive in he city, especially since they tear so much down here. See less

Food excellent and service also excellent! However one unruly customer was allowed to behave in a manner which upset some customers and ruined their dining experience! He was obviously high on something and was playing music on his phone and dancing around the floor.This went on for about an hour and the junior staff did not intervene.Everyone was greatly relieved when he decided to leave. Message to the owner you need a senior person on site when your not around who will ask unruly customers to behave or leave! See less

Quick to serve a drink.... But then went missing in action 45 minutes to get asked if we'd like to order, (their family members sitting at restaurant more important) we went to Thai cornar around corner best meal I've had in Canberra. Glad they didn't serve us in an appropriate time. See less
