Always had good experience at this place until last night I got food poisoned from the nasi lemak. Everything on the plate was cold except the rice. I guess it was the only thing that was freshly cooked. I got no issues with premade food especially something needs to be slow-cooked, but I woukd espect at least it is heated up the rendang beef was not heated up probably and it was just warm enough to put into mouth. The egg was cold like straight out from fridge. This was always my favorite restaurant but i have to say goodbye from now. I've been suffering stomach cramps and diarrhea for almost 24 hours now and no signs the cramps will be gone soon. See less

I used to go there all the time, given that its just down the road from where I work. It use to be bigger portion, and cheaper (i.e, $15.2 for fried egg noodle sauce), Today went there for 4 main dishes without checking prices. price increased with almost $2 per dishes, also portion got smaller with take away container. another words, it increase of almost $4!! (smaller and expensive) lol it also taste very different, inspecificaly less flavour. I will not go back again, because there are more competitive restaurant out there with better price. I also would not recommend to all my friend, because I don't want to disappoint anyone. See less

My go to laksa restaurant in Melbourne. The amount of toppings, the beautiful sambal (we always ask for more) on the side, the texture of the noodles, on top of the great broth πŸ˜πŸ’— love! See less

Very authentic Malaysian food. Laksa is as good as laksa king next door. The three colour drink is not as good as from viet restaurants. Keen to come back and try other dishes. See less

When Malaysian food is what you want than Chef Lagenda is where you wanna go! Visited over the weekend and was SO pleased by the food. We tried the traditional curry laksa & meal deal with Roasted Duck and BBQ Pork with chicken soup & egg noodles. Can't wait to return soon for more dishes! See less

I came here to catch up with one of my friends who live in the area and is a regular. Chef Lagenda is a bit of an icon in the Asian community. The place is conveniently located just next to the Newmarket station. It's typically decorated in red and inside has a very Buddhist vibe. There is plenty of seats on the ground and 1st floor. There is balcony seatings too that can accommodate one big and long table and some smaller ones. We went the ones on the balcony. The menu give customers a lot of options for all budgets. These are the restaurants I typically always visit. It's got your really expensive dishes, mid range westernised dishes and the cheaper rice and soup noodle dishes. We got a vegetable eggplant dish and nanyang beef belly dish and went with the fried kuay teow. The beef belly dish is the stand on dish. The eggplant texture wasn't really to my liking although the beans tasted pretty good. The kuay teow was pretty good too and cheaper than a lot of places. They unfortunately don't accept AMEX so I had to use Visa although they don't have surcharges which is good. The toilet is located on the 1st floor at the top of the stairs. Chef Lagenda is an icon like I said and it offers dishes for all budgets and will fill you up! It's definitely worth a visit if you haven't been, and it's worth going over and over again if you live nearby. See less

Update... After having laksa in many, many places around Melbourne I can safely say the seafood laksa in CL is THE BEST LAKSA YOU WILL FIND IN MELBOURNE, there, I said it! πŸ˜πŸ˜† Jokes aside it's so good that it makes ordering laksa anywhere else a disappointing experience. Old review: I have tried a few dishes from the menu but my favourite in this style of Peranakan cuisine would have to be the seafood laksa... This is almost next door to Laksa King and apparently the chef is the ex head chef from there. The annoying part of both experiences would have to be cash payment but at least in Chef Lagenda you can pay with card for over $30. The waiting time for food maybe slightly longer than the other place but usually you can get a table quicker (so almost same same) check it out, it's a great feed... See less

Good place to eat. Nice food. The Fish fillet in fish fillet noodle soup dish is only boiled and taste dry not juicy. It's healthier way but I prefer deep fried to give more taste& different texture in the soup See less

Chef Lagenda, where you go on a cold winters night when you’re after a delicious bowl of laksa. Generally less busy than its neighbor laksa king the staff here are attentive and friendly. The bowls are huge. Great value for under $10. The ingredients are fresh and tasty although the eggplant was at times a bit over cooked and mushy but overall it was great value for money. See less

Usually viewed as the alternative to Laksa King if the latter is full, Chef Lagenda holds its own ground in the flavour department with similar and unique menu items from the Malaysian kitchen. Some dishes tend to be a bit hit and miss though, like the samba seafood dish that looked the part but had zero saltiness to it. See less

Loved this place. The food was fantastic and the service was extremely excellent. Eugene our waiter was very helpful even packed us an extra sambal on our way out as i loved the flavour of the sambal with my salted fish fried rice. If u go here ask to be seated upstairs as its more mordern and less crammed downstairs is usually quite busy and very close to the kitchen. We got a perfect seating upstairs which was very nice n cosy. Will definitely be back here... vegans pls watch out all not all vegetarian dishes are vegetarian. See less
