The tonkatsu (crumbed pork cutlet) ramen I had is one of the worst I've ever eaten. For $15.50 I expect a much, much better performance.
The broth is the base of any good ramen, but this broth was oily and tasted like it was made using a powdered chicken noodle soup packet.
The toppings were totally wrong - no Bok Choi, no seaweed, no egg, and lettuce instead of cabbage, which was buried under the noodles so that it was wilted half to death. The broccoli, snow peas and carrots had clearly been steamed rather than cooked in the broth, so they were totally flavourless. Worst of all, the oyster mushrooms (which are generally not included in ramen) had contaminated the flavour of the broth and noodles. Being someone who dislikes mushroom, I would have appreciated this being noted in the description on the menu, rather than coming as an unpleasant surprise.
The noodles themselves were cheap and overcooked, and were only 1 step up from 2 minute noodles.
The pork cutlet itself was fine, but slightly chewy and overcooked in spots. The fish cakes were also fine, but nothing to get excited about.
I would honestly give this place 1 star based on this dish, but I would like to hope their other dishes are not this bad. See less
