Company fraudulently kept my credit card funds until a few days after this post.
On 06 November 2021 I ordered food at Grill’d together with table water. They charged me and I paid finally with Mastercard after 2 unsuccessful attempts to pay with Amex when the waiter did not know, that the restaurant did not take Amex.
After paying with MC she gave me bottled water and I advised that I had ordered tap water and asked her whether she had charged me for it.
She stated that she did so and I asked her to refund it because I only wanted tap water ( this was an attempt to take advantage of me). They told me that they couldn’t refund it onto the credit card and in a dispute with the waitress not being very friendly I decided that I would not eat at the restaurant altogether.
The manager Edward came finally and told me that he did not have authority to refund it onto my credit card and that could only be done by his head office.
I advised him that I would expect the refund within 3-5 business day.
In the following week he contacted me and advised that they could not refund it on the credit card and wanted to have my bank account details.
I told him that it needed to be refunded to the credit card and that he would not get my bank account details.
I have a written agreement by Edward, the manager to refund the money on the day, which has not occurred so far.
When I disputed the amount of $31.75 with my bank, Grill'd being the dishonest company that they are, seemed to have disputed the whole situation and the bank decided to not return my funds or go through the financial ombudsman.
I guess this is a fraudulent action by the company and their refusal to return my funds despite not having eaten there and having a written statement by the manager makes me consider getting the police involved as well as writing a letter of demand and filing at ACAT for the return of my funds.
I urge all those considering eating there to be careful that they don't overcharge you and when you have paid by credit card their prospective reaction that they will never ever return your funds.
