I don’t usually write reviews for restaurants, but I thought it worthwhile to share my disappointing experience at Italy. We came on Good Friday and ordered an entrée, a pasta dish, and a dessert to be shared by two people. The portion sizes were decent, but the food was quite average for the price we payed for it. The pesto sauce that was served with the pasta was salty and lacking in flavour, and tasted like it came out of a jar. I won’t go on about the food because that wasn’t even the worst part. After we received our bill we noticed that we were charged more than expected (including a $1 card surcharge when I don’t believe they even accepted cash). When we disputed the amount we were charged, we were told that there was an additional surcharge for public holidays. Though we didn’t notice, it did indeed state at the bottom of the menu that there was a 10% surcharge. We had no problem with this, BUT for no reason in particular, they increased the additional charge to 15%. They argued that there was simply nothing that could have been done about it. I know it’s only a small increase, but I do NOT appreciate the dishonestly. All we could have asked for is for transparency, and that the prices and surcharges were clearly stated before we payed. My partner and I will not be back.
Edit - I am grateful for those who work on public holidays and I understand the need for surcharges. I just think it’s not too much to ask for staff to be upfront about exactly how much extra we are paying. (And I know what good pesto tastes like, and this was not it!) See less
