We went today was so sad to see how far this shop has gone down we were told takeaway cups only but no reason why! We ordered 2 cappuccino & 2 vanilla slices having waited for a good 10minutes the coffee was made then I had to ask for our vanilla slices they didn’t believe I had paid for them the girls making the coffee were arguing between themselves but I eventually got my order the coffee was disgusting not drinkable vanilla slice was ok not the best we have had better! This used to be the best cafe in town & always busy a lot of people walked on as they didn’t want takeaway coffee! Hope you can bring your cafe back up to standard! See less

Personally I don't care if the owner "stalks reviews" as other reviews have suggested. It's about the food for me. The food is great, admittedly I've only ever had the vanilla slice. The owner/staff have always had great customer service and have been great to deal with. On the slice, don't be fooled by the local imitations. This is the definitive vanilla slice and the best I have ever had. I come here once a year from Qld and this is always one of my highlights. Please never change I hope to come back for years! Thanks. We were in Mornington for the weekend so I had to try the famous vanilla slice. Both bf and I are custard lovers and therefore vanilla slice lovers. We ordered a slice to share and they had some prepackaged for takeaway. Verdict: custard was delicious, perfect consistency, creamy and great flavour. Millefuille was too soggy at the bottom and very thin on top. Is it good vanilla slice? Definitely. If you’re in the area it’s worth a try but personally I wouldn’t make the trip. See less

Tried this place without any expectation for coffee..vanilla slice was alright, good thing was that it was not overtly sweet. Due to the crowd, we had to wait long for our order..coffee was only so so. Should probably have more staff to clear tables and serve quickly because there will always be the crowd when its Sorrento's famous slice! See less

Came here many years ago and had fond memories. However my visit last weekend left me disappointed and probably should have heeded the warnings from recent reviews. I arrived late on Sunday afternoon just before closing time and the store was still full with customers queuing for the famous vanilla slice. I ordered 4 slices to take home and share with the family. Also ordered a mocha to go, which was quite watered down. Upon arriving home to open the wrapped package, I was disappointed to see how the vanilla slices looked like. The taste was ok, however rest of the family didn’t bother to finish. I regularly get vanilla slices from a certain famous bakery in Carlton and this unfortunately doesn’t even come close. See less

Vanilla slice was pleasant. Custard was smooth and fluffy, it wasn’t overly sweet (which I didn’t mind) and the pastry was crispy. There was no jam on the bottom pastry piece but personally, I prefer it without the jam. I did read the reviews before going and trying the famous vanilla slice. I was hesitant but I wanted to be fair and base my review on the vanilla slice I ordered. I feel the responses to some of the reviews from the management team at Just Fine Food to be very inappropriate and not professional. To call out that a review is fake, listing reasons why they believe it’s fake, telling a customer to get a life is very unprofessional and not welcoming for the business. See less

2.3 out of 5. It didn’t work for us here, sadly. Good points first. This cafe is in a prominent position on the Main Street. It’s often busy and can be a lovely sun trap on the right day like today. The key bad point is that it’s expensive here and noticeably so. A large long black is $6.50. A small skinny flat white with an extra shot is $5. One cannoli is $8.50. We thought the coffee was ordinary. The flat white was small as mentioned and too cool when it arrived. The long black was bitter and not pleasant to drink. The cannoli was nice but it needed to be. Overall the coffees, drinks and pastry felt 20% or so overpriced. Sorrento is an expensive area and the prices factor that in. You’re essentially paying for position I think as this is the first cafe you see when you enter the town proper. My recommendation would be to venture further and try other places. See less

BEWARE - OWNER STALKS YOUR REVIEW HISTORY AND PERSONALLY ATTACKS YOU WHEN YOU LEAVE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!! *****Original review**** Agree with a lot of the negative reviews! Gave it a shot and confirmed that: - vanilla slice was ok, but not the best I’ve had. - don’t bother about the food and coffee - it is overpriced for the portion and quality - tables are dirty and staff for some reason only wiped 2 of our 3 tables - I’m willing to pay the higher price for service, but we still needed to get our own water and cups Overall, disappointing experience. ******Updated review***** I have reviewed professionally. The comment that I need to see a psychiatrist is an uncalled for personal attack and shows that the owner spends considerable time trawling reviewers history. The fact that the owner is willing to go to such lengths shows who the unbalanced one is. Rather than spending time attacking customers, it would be useful if you spent it improving on areas customers are providing you feedback on. See less

We bought vanilla slices. The ones in the windows looked great. So we thought we might take some back to our apartment for afternoon tea. I ordered 2, and the girl reached into the fridge and said these are prepacked for convenience. I sh oiuld have looked at them. We got soggy slices that looked like someone had stepped on them and tasted like they were 3 days old. The cafe was closed by the time we pulled them out to eat. So disappointed, we will never buy them again and will never recommend this place See less

Incredibly Delicious Vanilla Slice that will leave you thinking about it for days and wanting more! Was very impressed. I didn't think it would taste as good as i heard or as they say, but it definitely did! Can get very busy and hard to find a spot, but worth the wait! Very friendly staff and great customer service! Arrived here on a Friday lunchtime with 30-odd other hungry cyclists having just ridden down from Melbourne. The staff seemed a bit shell-shocked but we all got our food and left happy. See less

We got 2 cakes take-away (1$ cheaper than having on a spot) and did have it there just from a plastic container instead of a proper plate. We ordered the famous vanilla slice and a piece of cheesecake. They both were ok but probably too sweet for me and with too much butter (I could feel some small pieces of not properly mixed butter in the cheesecake). See less

I was all excited to come and try the famous vanilla slice but was quite an upsetting experience. Within 5 mins being seated, the first waitress was very attentive and helpful with our orders. We waited for 10 mins and finally received my vanilla slice which looked collapsed and tasted average. Coffee was warm... We also ordered a chicken and leek pie that arrived another 20 mins later, which you can see from the photo... It was the size of the front part of the fork ($18)with a few chips and rockets. I was surprised on how small the serve was and checked with the waitress (a different one) who confirmed that was the normal size. I started taking photos of the food and another lady (with a name badge 'Ida' ) came to check. They turned around and said it was cut in half so we could share (so there was a second one that originally the waitress took back because they accidentally cut an extra). Another 5 mins wait and The Angus beef burger was a little dry but taste ok. The restaurant looks decent but I was expecting a much better experience and bigger portions of dishes with the price tags... See less
