The food here was delicious. We discovered this place after our first choice for bagels was closed. I'm glad we went to this place instead. The lox was delicious and super filling. Really nice waitress and it's hard to beat the $8 lox cream cheese bagel. See less

Best lox I’ve ever had, but the bagel it came on was very dry/stale. With great bagels this place would be 5 stars. See less

Situated on the second floor of the museum is a gem of a restaurant. As you enter the second floor, a wonderful aroma emits from the doors. It smells like an everything bagel! After we had sat down and had our orders taken, the Chef comes out to welcome us, which was a wonderful touch and made us feel like valued guests. Our original lox bagels come out and they are simply phenomenal. Quite literally the best Lox I have ever had. The smoked salmon was noticeably of high quality and the bagel was perfectly toasted. The Chef even personally brought our bagels out to us! Everything from the outstanding service to the delicious food makes this place worth a stop. If I lived in NYC, I would be a regular here. My husband and I, along with our baby daughter, just attended one of the family concerts at the museum. We ventured to the 2nd floor to see the garden, which was so peaceful, over looking the water with great views of the Statue of Liberty. While we didn't plan on getting something to eat, the cafe smelled so good, we couldn't help but try something! My husband got a lox sandwich with tomatoes, cream cheese and dill. As a New Yorker, this is a sandwich I've had time and again; but, this one was tops. The cream cheese was without a doubt home made. And, comparable bagel shops sell these sandwiches for at least $15 in NYC. So, to have this at a museum cafe with these homemade touches for just a couple dollars more is really a value. Ilan, one of the owners, truly went above and beyond. While we were waiting, he asked us which of their pastries looked good to us and actually gave pieces to take away. I overheard him make sure that our order was correct (we needed an ingredient omitted), and as we were walking out, he even have us a bottle of water. We have since visited the museum twice more, and both times have stopped by Lox for a treat. Everything has been fantastic. The pastrami lox sandwich was so good! What a creative, delicious sandwich. And do yourself a favor. Get the poppyseed danish, cheese danish, and chocolate babka (yes, we've tried virtually all of their baked goods and this was a wise, delicious decision!). You can taste the quality of their ingredients. And most memorably, this is stuff made with LOVE. I can't really describe what it is. But, you know that feeling you'd get when your grandmother would make you your favorite meal? That's what it feels like to have the food here. You can feel and taste the results of how much pride the owners take on their work. Lox Cafe is a gem of a spot, and we can't wait to return! See less

First of all, the museum is magnificent. It is a must visit. An experience that will stay with you. As for Lox, as good and authentic as it could be. I had the Minsk Matzo Babka and the Original Bagel and Lox. Both tasted so good; and absolutely real. The staff was nice, the chef was there. The view is great and the seats are well-spaced. Highly recommended! See less

I love this place! They give good meals, their menu is rich, The chief cook in that restaurant is a professional, I like very much tasting all their dishes. The food is always good, the attitude towards the visitors is efficient. I visit often this place and I not even once was unhappy. Highly recommended. See less

My husband and I had an amazing experience. We were visiting NY for 3 days and happened upon this cafe. Unfortunatelh husband has numerous food allergies, so it is difficult to eat out no matter where we go. The chef was more than accommodating and made something off menu for my husband. I would definitely recommend this place when visiting NY. See less

Delicious Jewish food tucked away on the 2nd floor of the Museum of Jewish Heritage Hot take - best lox in the city! Bagel and lox is loaded with delicious fish and cream cheese. My only complaint would have been for more onions. But I love onions. Deviled eggs are good too The rainbow cake was decent. There’s better ones around. Service was good but a little confusing. It’s supposed to be table service but there is no host to seat you. We ended up ordering at the counter but the food was served to our table ... You don’t have to pay the museum admission to eat here Great views while you eat too! See less

Definitely authentic! I got the traditional lox on an everything bagel and it was great! I removed the vegetables because I thought they were unnecessary. My husband got the lower east side sandwich and it was good with really strong flavor but the coleslaw slightly overpowered the flavor of the lox. We'd definitely go there again. I wish we'd had time to check out the museum as well, we didn't know it was inside the museum. Service was fine, we didn't have to wait but it got busier and we felt like they were waiting for us to leave. Overall, great experience. See less

The lox platter is a great value and introduction to the various and impeccably prepared lox varieties including my personal favourite the Pastrami Lox. The condiments, cheeses and breads and bagels just combine to form a symphony of flavours. We loved and savoured every bite and wished we had more space to order more! See less

Found this place while trying to escape the cold and was pleasantly surprised. The view is picturesque and the Lower East Side Sandwhich was as flavorful as it was colorful. Caught a whiff what the people next to me were having, Cheese Blintzes - I'm think I'll brave the winter chill again to come back for those! See less

The menu consists of an eclectic variety of Jewish favorites, and has by far the best lox I have EVER had, (also different flavors!) I would definitely highly recommend getting a sandwich w/ lox on challah. AMAZING place, must try, 5/5 stars! I highly recommend the LOX 5 ways (PICTURED). See less

Lox is the cafe located on the 2nd floor of the Museum of Jewish Heritage. You don't have to pay museum admission to eat here (though you do have to go through the security check). They offer five different types of lox here, in interesting flavors like the pastrami lox and the sake ginger lox. There are also Jewish/Russian sweets like strudel and babka. They observe Jewish holidays here, so always check ahead. If you're a fan of lox, this should be on your list. See less
