It took longer than desired to be acknowledged/greeted upon arrival, eventually, a very unenthusiastic host mumbled 'come this way' and took us to our table. Once we were seated, the menus were tossed on our table like they would be at a pub, not even handed to each of us.
We ordered: Gnocchi, Octopus, potatoes and Leaf salad - underwhelming, tiny portions which are not worth the price (yes I'm aware it's meant to be "fine dining"), and bland. Not to mention, my partner was pretty much forced into adding truffle in his Gnocchi, for an extra $15, because as another unenthusiastic waiter said, 'it will make it taste better'. We left still hungry!
No issues with the timing of the food arrival, that was the only plus.
The ambiance... There wasn't! Albeit it is such a beautiful setting, the vibe did not match. Very cold, unwelcoming and you feel you want to be out of there ASAP!
Upon departure, we were handed the bill by a silent host, no questions asking how we enjoyed ourselves, no thanking us for dining there, not even a goodbye, nothing. Zero customer service skills from the staff, in fact most looked sad and as though they couldn't be bothered.
Considering we were super excited to dine at Matilda, we were left extremely disappointed with the whole experience,
from the moment we walked in, right to the very end.
I am criticising heavily I know, but when you go to a top tier restaurant that you're paying big $$$ for, you are inclined to have certain expectations, and sadly, Matilda didn't meet any of them. See less
