The Travelmints team had heart great things about Niku Ou, and we wanted to try out the Japanese Charcoal Grill. It was one of the Travelmints team's birthday, and we had to check this out for ourselves and indulge in some fine Wagyu goodness!
Niku Ou feels like an upscale BBQ restaurant, but it's quite unassuming. Without going inside, you might not expect that they serve up decadent Wagyu, but that's exactly the case.
Their staff are polite and knowledgeable. They explained the Wagyu menu, and the differences between the different grades of Wagyu. They also made some suggestions to help us choose.
While the staff were helpful, we'd love to see experts in the venue to teach customers more about the origins of various cuts/grades of Wagyu, as well as providing a short masterclass as part of the experience.
We were there for the Wagyu grill, but we also tried a few starters like sashimi and the Aburi Foie Gras Wagyu Nagiri with seared m9+ Wagyu. We then ordered from the grill!
We tried all types of Australian and Japanese Wagyu types, and it blew our minds. In particular, the M9+ Oyster Blade was outstanding. We've never experienced Wagyu like this outside of Australia! For a birthday 'cake', we also enjoyed the Yamazaki Ice Cream with dry ice. It capped off the meal nicely.
We found that the Wagyu was delicious, and worth every cent. Not many places can match the quality and freshness of the meat at Niku Ou. Our meals were accompanied by beer and some Japanese whiskey. Their range isn't extensive, but does accompany the Wagyu well.
If you're looking for the best experience, try as many of the Wagyu options on the menu as you can and compare the types/grades. Try the Wagyu set for a guaranteed good time! See less
