Toothfish and scallops are pretty good. 5 star recommendation for the Toothfish dish. Fruits infused drinks are all girls friendly. Umetsu Nokyo plum sake is nice, citrus one is not bad, I’m keen for the yuzi one next time. They have amazing shochu as well. The owner is super friendly and is willing to explain the difference between drinks. Quiet ish and relatively small but it’s a perfect place for a Saturday night. Location is opposite mirage apartment. See less

One of the most stunning dining experiences we've had, sensory immersion at its finest. Could not fault the food, ambience or sake. Hiro's hospitality, service and knowledge of his art created a memorable evening. We can't wait to come back! See less

The menu is simple: here's our very bespoke Japanese nibbles selection (both dinner sized and good for a snack), and here's what sits behind the bar - Japanese whiskey and sake. The venue is something I can only describe as no nonsense. You walk in and see the entire space at first glance. It's small and cozy. All of the drink offerings are completely obvious just by looking behind the bar. No cocktails or fanfare outside of some lovely presentation when you order a highball or a whiskey. No nonsense absolutely works in their favour here. I'll note that the venue is a bit expensive from a drinks front, but that's something that any fan of Japanese whiskey is already used to, I'm sure. The food however is very reasonably priced for its quality. And I noticed that same of the more 'affordable' spirit choices are absent from the menu (but visibly behind the bar). If you know what you like - sake, Japanese cuisine, Japanese whiskey, great service - then this is your no nonsense answer for it. See less

Spectacular experience all around. The service was impeccable, the food was really delicious, and of course the whiskies were out of this world. My husband and I really enjoy Japanese whiskies and have even been to the Yamazaki distillery near Kyoto before, but being able to try a more diverse range and expand our knowledge guided by an expert is really valuable. We came away from our evening really keen to seek out and buy more lesser known Japanese whiskies. Aside from the most important aspect of our experience (whisky!), we had such an enjoyable time it's like we were floating on a euphoric cloud all night. The owner is very kind and easy to talk with to determine your tastes, etc. And the food was stellar! It was hard to pick what to get but we decided on the soft shell crab tacos, mentaiko, tuna, aburi scallops, anchovy dip, and the hojicha creme brûlée. All of our dishes were exceptional, would absolutely recommend all of them. We can't wait to come back and try more whiskies and food options. See less

Amazing place. The owner is a great chap with talented people in the kitchen. I've been very curious to try Japanese whisky. The taster menu was a great introduction. The food was so good with everything explained as it came to me and my wife. We were both very happy throughout the whole visit with drinks, food and great service. Highly recommended to anyone who wants a unique relaxing evening. With such a great selection of great drinks it leaves the door open to head back for another visit. See less

Innovative menu - not your traditional Japanese cuisine. Nicely presented: a flavoursome experience for your taste buds. We had fresh oysters ($5 each) and the tuna tartare ($20) followed by the Wagyu rump ($36) and the marinated toothfish grill ($35). The last was served on a bed of koshihikari risotto. Service was excellent and prompt - very little waiting, though all dishes are cooked to order. Noda-san took the trouble to describe each dish as it was served. 御馳走様🙏 The lighting is very subdued - whilst this creates a certain ambience, it does make it hard to read the menus. Licenced, but no BYO. Reasonable selection of wines, but on the pricey side (pinot noir $110/bottle, grenache $158/bottle). We settled for Powell & Son Shiraz by the glass ($24/glass). Large selection of Japanese whisky, Shōchū and Nihonshu. Unfortunately, due to the high cost of having a drink with my meal, we won't hurry back. Please consider allowing BYO, even if you have, say, a $7 per person corkage fee or similar. You are operating in Pyrmont, not The Ginza. See less

Really an amazing dinner experience. The food was exceptional and so much care and love went into it. I would say the highlight was the anchovies and the tacos, seriously delicious and so fresh. The plum cocktail and plum wine (not on the menu, but recommend you ask for) is so delicious. The wagyu steak was really great. The service was exceptional and felt like I was back in Japan!! Will be back for sure See less

Nothing quite like this place to enjoy a quiet drink with a friend, partner, or just yourself. Great line of premium whiskey and long wine list to enjoy. The cuisine menu has been designed by a well-known chef and are all simple but exquisite. Owner and staff's hospitality is second to none. I love the general atmosphere as well the whole menu. Slowly but definitely becoming a regular. For first timers, ask for the whisky tasting selection. Fine price and fine experience. The owner is well versed to give a recommendation as per your preference. See less
