Visited this famous countryside restaurant of VIC last month. The vibe was warm and cozy. The estate is well-known with their garden but by the time we visited, it was dark already so did not really have the chance to enjoy the view.
2 of us decided to go for the 6 course degustation menu, $120/pp. The food was good, but not great.. and not worth it as well. What I meant here is the dishes were cooked from great to perfect, the steak was cook perfectly medium rare, duck breast was good, the cherry tomatoes for the entree were fresh. However it was not a WOW with the food. I have been tried a few of the degustation menu of some restaurants in Melbourne and what impressed me about this kind of dining is the dishes are often innovative which surprised the dinners. But this is not happened in Sault. And that is what I meant. What’s more, 6 courses but 1 is cherry tomatoes salad for the entree, and 2 courses are sorbet.. So $120 is not well worth.
The vibe is not bad too but not get me the welcoming feeling. We were served by totally 5 different staffs for the night. One of them told us that the restaurant is always busy during the year and was fully booked for the weekends till next month.. Maybe I understand now.. See less
