Shady Palms was so great when it opened ... my husband and I, along with friends and family, would frequent it as often as we could for the great friendly vibes, beautiful surroundings, and the tasty menu. Yesterday was our first visit back post-lockdown, and it is terribly sad to say Shady Palms is no longer the place we loved. In fact, all 6 adults were extremely underwhelmed and disappointed. So what has changed you ask? The biggest difference to note is the menu. It is NOT anywhere to what it was before. The burgers were so yummy and delicious, now ordinary. Where are the waffle chips? Now a bowl of chips, that could well be McClain Superfries, is $15. Sauce an extra $2. The second biggest difference: the pricing. For what you get, it is now very expensive. A cheap bottle of white wine: zero change from $50. Thirdly, and probably the most disappointing, the vibe. Sure, we went on a Monday so expected it to be quiet. But what we didn't expect was having to find a staff member on arrival. No table set up, despite booking for 9 people and leaving credit card details with $160 deposit should we not turn up (fair enough for a busy period, but not when we are the only ppl there), no table service as such. Scan the QR code and order online. Your food will arrive. Almost like a takeaway service. Except if you have cash, then a wait staff will verbally take your order. Really, really disappointing. Don't get me wrong, the girl was friendly, but the whole ordering system is not only weird, but it feels detached and mechanical. Very, very sad cause if these things aren't fixed, then I can't see Shady Palms surviving. See less
