Taste of Amoy
Sate Prawn Wonton & Pork Noodle Soup
I love new restaurants! You go in with no expectations as there aren’t many reviews to go by and no hype for them to live up to. The newest soup spot on Chapel street is Taste of Amoy, a restaurant specialising in sate / peanut broth based soup. I have never had this soup but from what I have read up it is a satay sauce combined with Shacha type base which includes dried shrimp, shallots, garlic, Chili and fish. Red. Hot. The soup came out fast with some of the most warm and friendly service I had experienced from a waitress. This bowl was jam packed, some nice in tact wontons and some huge chunks of pork. I dug into the broth and was very impressed - if I was going to make a comparison it would be to a Tan Tan Men noodle base, it was a delight with some subtle fragrances shining though. While there were minimal greens in this soup the pork cuts and prawn wontons more than made up for it. If I was going to be picky it would have been great to see a bit more stuffing in the wontons. The noodles were cooked perfectly, no chewy soft noodles here. All in all this was a delicious dish with well balanced flavours. The waitress came over to us after our meal to make a special announcement - the boss of the restaurant had just had a baby! Very wholesome and lovely. Congratulations.
