Pro/cons Always get the croissant with game and cheese! My cup of tea was little too hot. But I did ask for everything to be extra hot!! See less

Fantastic little cafe tucked away in what seems like a nursery. Staffed by lovely, engaged young people, with very high food quality. Coffee is 'ok' - tends to be a little too milky. See less

We love it here. Our toddler loves coming to see the chickens and has a great time outside. We’ve enjoyed toasties, eggs bennies bacon or mushroom (omg love how you cook mushrooms), greens bowl + mushrooms. Everything and everyone has been fabulous! Toddler plate is good too. Wish there were more strawberries that came with it because she gobbled them so fast. See less

Kids For Dinner Apr 09, 2021
The Barn Owl Cafe in Silvan will bring the kids joy! They're worth scheduling this stop into a day trip in the Dandenongs! Firstly, the cafe is absolutely kid-friendly, with a spacious and fenced in yard where the kids can roam. Since our visit - they've added chooks back to the family and have an outdoor sandpit for the kids to play in. Their kid's menu was an absolute highlight for us, and the kids loved having a banana milkshake with their meal combo! They have options for babies, toddlers, and older kids. Think smashed, finger food, or meals. You'll enjoy your meal too, with a substantial all-day menu, and great coffee! There are some tables inside, but we think the outside area is the winner. Either sit in their weatherproof covered pergola, or on one of their bench tables under a tall tree. The kids enjoyed collecting rocks and sticks during our stay! The service was absolutely friendly and fast too! But wait, there's more! Seasonally, there is blueberry picking on location too! Silvan is known for wonderful DIY berry picking, so you can tick both of those options off at one location! The kids absolutely loved picking the blueberries. We also went past Chappies Berries down the road, to pick up some freshly picked raspberries and blackberries. 📷 Thyme Roasted Mushroom Eggs Benny 📷 Beef Brisket Burger and Chips (12+ hour beef pulled brisket slow-cooked in chipotle abode chili peppers with slaw, sriracha aoili, and house-pickled jalapenos) 📷 Kid's Poached Egg on Toast & House Nuggets and chips. I come for coffee and blueberries picking every year for the last 4 years, i love to see how the place have been growing over those years and the girls staffs are very friendly every time i visit. It is definately a great place to hangout and catchup with friends and there are heaps of things for kids to play with and enjoy themselves. I will surely come back for more blueberries over the coming years. See less

The Barn was like a beer to a thirsty man. I had just finished running a half marathon through the foothills of Silvan, in the pouring rain, in the middle of winter. I was cold, dirty and just wanted a coffee and something to eat. I was headed down the road and stumbled upon the Barn. Now from the outside you just aren't going to go in. It looks like an old barn or nursery and is not inviting at all. But persevere because it is worth it on the inside. The decor is really inviting and feels very country. They served me the best coffee I had ever had and some breakfast. I felt warm and snugly. I could have stayed all day. If your out and about in the hills, especially in winter, then put the Barn on your list to stop. See less

Customer Service - 1/2 Star. Nice greeting when we arrived but sadly the service was not great as we were forgotten about after that. When our order was finally taken it took 15 min for our drinks order to come and 46 min for our food to come. Others left due to the long waits. Table was really sticky but may just have been the cleaning method as didn’t have crumbs or anything - not sure. Food - 0 Stars. It was appalling - after waiting 46 min the chips where cold on all meals ordered (10 meals ), the buns where old or frozen - dry as anything. Pulled Pork Burger - pork had been reheated or microwaved - no taste and juice just flowed out of it. Meals with bread - bread rock hard - almost impossible to cut. The rest of the meals - theme was cold food, which was very expensive and very little taste. Value for money - 1/2 stars. Example of cost - Smashed pumpkin was $18.50 (3 cubes of pumpkin on rock hard toast) extras cost Egg $3 each, Bacon $5 and hollandaise $4 - so $33.50 WOW! The burgers where as described as above. Chicken salad ok but only a few small pieces of chicken with a whiff of salad. Breakfast as pictured really small for the $ Beverages - 2.5 Stars. Coffee - large was not a double shot as you would expect but tasted a little weak but ok. Milkshake very small for $6 but not cold. I hate this kind of review as I do support local businesses and I have eaten here before and its been ok. This time though it was really unfortunately not great at all and we paid a premium price. (Our table spent around $250). Happy to spend the money and do so often but really want value for money. See less

Friendly staff. Table was really sticky. The wait was unbelievable. It was not busy when we were there. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks and 46 minutes to get our food. Milkshake was ok. Coffee excellent. Chips came out cold and the burger bun was so dry and stale, it tasted as though it was frozen and reheated. I wasn’t able to eat it because it was so gross. I would not come back.
