I eat out 2-3 times a week across Australia. I’m fortunate to have The Box a 5 minute walk from home. The young managers, wait staff and kitchen staff do a superb job every time. The view is fantastic and the service is great, but the food is really not worth what they’re charging for. A two-course meal is $55 pp., and three-course $70. And what they don’t tell you over the phone when you make the reservation is that public holiday surcharge is 15%. We ended up paying $160 for 2x two course meals with a couple of basic drinks on a public holiday. The serving sizes are not great either with the scallop entree being only 3x half sized scallops (scallop meat cut in a thin slice). We were still hungry after lunch, we had to have more food elsewhere. I think if you’re paying $160 for lunch for 2 people, you should at least leave full. See less

This is a great place, if they let you sit! Even if the place is almost empty on a weekday, you need to wait for the waiter to first finish her phone call and learn that you have to pay at least $55 per person for the lunch. Good luck with that! Such a waste. See less

Wow!!! I was so worried about the table and the service as it was our Anniversary and husband is fussy. The staff even sent me a photo to help me with my booking! Because of Covid they are on set menu, but it was AMAZING!! There was plenty to choose from and the food was fantastic!! Super Fresh Prawns for me and crunchy tender pork belly, amazing ceviche king fish for hubby and beautiful creamy eye fillet steak. I never leave tips, but the young lady who served us deserved it so much. Can’t rank it highly enough. Will be back!!! We are from Sydney. See less

Had the two course set menu tonight and chose the steak and chips. It was the best well done steak I've ever had and the quality of the entire meal was well worth the price. Very happy with the dark chocolate and berry creme Broulee that wasn't too sweet and was the perfect size. Great value considering the high quality of the food and a lovely date night with a beautiful view and kind, friendly staff. See less

Good service but quite busy - gets difficult to get a hold of any waiter and the wait between courses is long. Gorgeous views but very expensive at $55 for 2 courses. If you’re wanting fish and chips, highly rec going to their kiosk and getting take away to eat on the beach as it’s much cheaper ($16). Salmon was alright but not anything I would rave about. Paella was exceptional, do give it a try. We also particularly liked the beetroot kingfish starter. Is $55 worth it for the food? Probably not. For the convenience and views? Maybe. *Restaurant is dog friendly!* It's important to note that there are two seperate venues in one - the restaurant and the kiosk. The kiosk is average and to be honest overpriced (charging for tomato sauce for example), and the food is fairly average. Coffee was okay. Kiosk gets 2 stars (3, minus 1 star for charging for sauce like there's a shortage). On the other hand, the restaurant is amazing - 5 stars. Restaurant staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant is dog friendly (big positive). The location is amazing. And the food was delicious and portioned appropriately. Will return to the restaurant, will not return to the kiosk. Review "averaged" out to 4 stars thanks to the great restaurant. See less

I took two of my work colleagues out for lunch at The Box on the Water. The ambiance of this sensational restaurant is something to behold. Seagulls flying by whist watching the gentle sway of the boats moored out on the water, the children playing in the ankle-deep waves of the most picturesque Ettalong Beach whilst people slowly walk by taking in the splendorous water views. The service from the moment we arrived at The Box was very friendly and professional as we were greeted by Mira, Sarah and Grace. My Colleagues were extremely impressed with the abundant serving of the fresh seafood platter. The succulent taste of the Lobster prepared and cooked by the senior Chef Anders was most enjoyable. We will be certainly returning to this fine restaurant in the not-too-distant future. See less

What a beautiful place . Great location and good customer service nice coffee . You need to get there early due to large traffic of people and parking you need to be lucky for the parking . Great little beach for the kids and walking track . Get there early is a must . Beautiful view and relaxing See less

We took a day trip to Ettalong Beach from Sydney. The scenery is beautiful, the water clear and temperate, easy parking, dog beach... We grabbed some lunch from the kiosk and found the food to be cold and stale - sadly. The restaurant looks amazing. Keen to give it a go. For entrées we had the scallops and the carpaccio and they were truly excellent. For mains we had the paella and the eye fillet. The paella was delicious. Unfortunately the eye fillet was awful and disappointing, the texture of the meat was mushy and had not been seared properly. For dessert eton mess and the chocolate creme brulee and they were excellent. I would probably go back but would avoid the eye fillet or any other steak just in case. See less

Gorgeous restaurant. I had been here prior to COVID and the food and service is still excellent. Tables are well spaced out and there is a great atmosphere here. Best to book and go for lunch (you may need to eat early to enjoy the view if you go for dinner, depending on the season). The sourdough and dukkah was moreish, and i loved the black sesame scallops. I have to say the zuchinni flowers were some of the best i had. The Paella is a stand out, the seafood texture is still firm and maintains a good amount of its original flavour. See less
