Maybe I got them on a bad day. I have no doubt that they produce a lot of mussels and I’m sure they are usually quite good, today the chef let the product down.
Raw garlic, raw onion and almost every beard left on the mussels. It should not be hard given this is their specialty.
They said they usually include cream with the white wine mussels, but given the current climate the extra 6 min it takes to prepare can’t be done.... 6 min, hmmm given my main meal of mussels in white wine came out 35 min after my oysters natural, I’m sure they could have squeezed in 6 min to cook them well during that time. Even a knob of butter at the end could have made the difference. The cooking liquid was bitter, and the Tiger loaf of sliced bread from Woolworths didn’t add anything to the overall dish.
A positive of the day is that I did get to sample a nice local Riesling and as I had to go past the winery, stopped in to pick up a bottle. See less
