Cold winters day in Tamworth as a visitor liked the look of this place! Looking for soup t alas not to be seen! Spotted a burger and chips going by so settled for that! Good lunch menu and has woodfired pizza oven If that’s your thing! Back to the burger .. came with a side of fat chips(nice) and the burger was as good as it gets! Good size quality ingredients just excellent! That’ll do pig that’ll do. See less

Looks great but doesn't deliver. Waitress doesn't smile and looks like she would rather be somewhere else. Loud, terrible play list that she also controls (Guns and Roses over lunch?) Food came quickly however Korean Chicken is salty and drowned in sauce. Bao buns served cold and flavourless. Promises much however sadly does reach any great heights. See less

Visiting Tamworth on business, this place totally suprised me. It is very rare I say I really enjoyed my meal, but I really enjoyed it. Staff are great, service is excellent, pricing is spot on. I could not find anything which was negative about my experience. I would recommend this place and will definitely eat here again. See less

Sitting outside in the fresh air having just eaten a perfect pumpkin risotto and waiting for a coffee. Staff are attentive and friendly. As I said food was really good and the restaurant seems to be doing Covid protocols well too. No complaints at all. See less

Went for lunch on Tuesday and had the pizza and wine deal for $25 - a total bargain. Pizza was amazing (had the Margherita) and so was the wine! Large pizza too and my partner had the pumpkin risotto which was so creamy and tasty. Nice vibes and lovely interior! Will be coming back for more. Good range of vegetarian options, also! See less

Overall I had a good experience, but my only nitpick would be that the staff aren't really engaging with customers, I kinda got the thought they didn't want to be there. NOT RUDE by any means, but not enthusiastic and friendly. Just doing the job. Maybe on the day I was there, or other factors I wasn't aware of might be the cause. In fairness, I did have a nice chat with one of the staff, after I kept joking and engaging with him. The staff member told me that the building was an old bank that has been renovated and modified, which gives the place some interesting character to soak in, while waiting for your food. In the end, I was served in a fairly timely manner (they know how to mix drinks!) and a wood fired pizza I had was simple, yet tasty and enjoyable enough. (Would order again) I would recommend, great for catching up with mates for dinner with some drinks. I'll definitely be going back. See less

Excellent, excellent, excellent, excellent... SERIOUSLY! Cute place, great music, staff, service, food, drinks, vibe... EVERYTHING! Put simply, we loved everything about it. The icing on the cake was how lovely they were with our 3 young children, how efficiently the food came out and the fact that the kiddies meals are only $5 between 4 and 6.30pm on weekdays! We will most certainly be back during our next visit to Tamworth! See less

Scott and the team here were amazing and incredibly accommodating. We came to Tamworth to facilitate a team building activity and Scott agreed to help us out without batting an eye. We went back later today to grab a beer and a bite to eat and it was outstanding! The cauliflower wings were great and the pizza was brilliant, even being made vegan for us specifically, but the standout was the Roast Pumpkin! Do yourself a favour and check this place out. We will definitely be back next time we're in Tamworth! See less

Travelling through NSW at this time I highly recommend book dinner in advance. Tonight we did, but when we got there no record. No problem!! The staff and service here were outstanding, amazing. The food and drink, fabulous. What a place!! Food pics not so good as I was too focused on eating. Did I mention the service? See less

There often seems to be an inverse relationship between how beautiful the architecture is, and how good the food is, at restaurants housed in fancy digs; but that’s not the case at The Pig and Tinder Box. Despite being located in Tamworth’s rather grand old bank building, erected in 1892 as the Bank of NSW but more recently occupied by the ANZ Bank, The Pig and Tinder Box don’t rest upon their fine architectural bones. Sitting somewhere between a pub, a boutique bar and an all-day eatery, The Pig is a Harvest Hotels property. Headed up by Chris Cornforth and Fraser Haughton, this hotelier group focuses upon regional pubs, currently controlling a range of properties across Tamworth and Yass. We’re lured in for brunch on the wide, airy front balcony with a short list of breakfast cocktails. Garnished with a pickled onion, pickled chilli and rosemary, their well-priced Bloody Mary ($13) is the perfect way to kickstart your Sunday. It’s well-balanced and easy to enjoy. I’m not quite as enamoured with the Breakfast Martini ($16). It’s a particularly sharp start to your day with Gordons Dry Gin, Lillet Rosé, house-made sour mix and not quite enough marmalade to gentle it down to suit the morning vibe. Perhaps as a nod to their time in Orange NSW with Percy’s Bar & Kitchen, Cornforth and Haughton have chosen to serve Academy Coffee. I find it a bit one-dimensional across a latte and a strong flat white, both served in large orange cups. With the short menu containing many nods to local producers, like sourdough from Sonny’s Bakery next door and smoked trout from Arc-en-Ciel, it’s surprisingly hard to choose what to eat. The idea of eating roast duck for breakfast pushes us into an English Muffin ($10) that leaves Maccas for dead with a fresh fried egg and house chutney joining the tasty bird. Unlike most of the Tamworth venues I explored during my recent trip, portions at The Pig are on the small side. It’s hard to complain though when they’re priced to match, with add-on options like House-made Crumpets ($3/each) allowing you to create your own multi-course breakfast. Crumpets, by the way, seem to be done better in Tamworth than they are in Sydney. This pair were airy and golden, without any hint of a stodgy centre; topped off with a smear of creamy passionfruit curd that walks the line between sour and sweet perfectly. Bacon ($4) comes as two thick, country-style rolled up rashers, and is a good add-on whatever you happen to be eating. Where the menu strays into genius however is with the Chicken & Ginger Congee ($16). This Chinese dish has been Westernised with extra texture with big hunks of breast meat scattered throughout, eating somewhere between a savoury porridge and a comforting chicken soup. Mini toasts add even more texture against bursts of XO sauce, and bright ginger threads. It’s this clever bowl of tasty, health-giving happiness that sends me off into my day with a grin. See less

Whilst in the centre of Tamworth, it would be well worth your while to have a lazy lunch, or an afternoon cocktail at this venue. Genuine friendly staff, and an efficient kitchen had my meal in front of me within 15 minutes. The meal was excellent, and I enjoyed the light hearted approach by the staff. See less
