Impeccable service. Top quality coffee and food. Friendly atmosphere. it is quiet and elegant - unlike the hundreds of "average" cafe's in shopping malls. You can enjoy your coffee in peace, without having to shout & without having to look at badly dressed shoppers. This is my n.1 choice in the city. Thanks. Matteo See less

Very cozy atmosphere as I walked in but it was almost completely empty - only one customer. I was confused because it is in a great location -middle of Norwood. I realised why a couple of seconds later. The guy behind the counter was exceptionally rude. When I asked a simple question about one of the things they served, he stared at me, almost in a hostile way for quite a while, then he literally shrugged, said "I dunno" and just continued to stare at me. All I wanted to know was if one of the items was gluten free - so I could buy it -as in I wanted to give him money! After a while of continuing to stare at me, he said "In 15 years of working here I've never been asked that" - as though it was a completely outrageous thing to ask, and I was some kind of offensive, deranged freak. Now, I don't want to call someone a liar outright, but it seems unlikely to me that in 15 years no-one has ever asked him about whether what he sells is gluten free. After staring at me for a bit longer he suggested I go to the cafe down the road. I did exactly that, because he was so hostile - I felt quite intimidated - and I actually didn't want to stay in that space. The cafe just down the road was great - they have lovely food, great service, were very friendly, went out of their way to check what they were serving me was gluten free. I would not recommend Vileroy at all. The whole experience was a bit disconcerting and definitely unwelcoming. If they changed their name to Vile it would be more accurate. See less

Abysmal food, ordinary wine and no atmosphere. It's spelt VILE roy for a reason. The waitress was nice though. See less

Its a great place. Has a beautiful lighting, romantic feel. They are professional and its present in the no nonsense service. The chefs are good and know how to cook. I have never left disappointed. I recommend people try them out. Well worth it. See less

A fantastic atmosphere, with a very nice French touch, in which you are served delicious meals. Conveniently located yet not in the busiest / noisiest part of town, which is very enjoyable. Recommended without hesitation. See less

We Went to meet a friend for coffee At this cafe we have never been , owner I presume wanted to close but didn’t say . It was 3pm . There were still customers in the shop and like 20 empty tables still outside. We sat at a table and the man came over annoyed and took the cutlery and crockery off our table. No greeting . He said what do we want ?clearly he didn’t want us to have anything. When we said we are just waiting for a friend he huffed off. When our friend arrived 2 minutes later we placed our order and the man went over and with a key and locked the door locking us and the remaining customers in the shop . Then walked off out the back. All the customers were looking around knowing this is a strange thing to do. When a table of people wanted to leave the man was missing in action. It was very uncomfortable for everyone knowing this man didn’t want us in his shop. His service was rude and abrupt and down right grumpy. We sculled our coffees to get the hell out of there. He couldn’t lock us out quick enough. While I read this cafe has 5 star reviews for food, service is a huge part of a business. Coffee was nice and to the mans credit a good barista and the place looked really really clean. See less

I regularly host board room lunches upstairs in one of two private dinning rooms. Excellent venue, food and service and very good value. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Grant and his team. Teaminvest See less

Delicious food - everything on the breakfast menu looked awesome, so had the mushrooms on brioche with a poached egg. Everyone at my table was really happy with their food. Coffee was great too. Really reasonable prices and easily accessible location. See less

A delightful, private room upstairs for an intimate meal with a small group. Service was excellent - although food was a bit slow coming. A fine menu of delicious food and wine. Only cons - daytime street parking limited to 2 hours and the dishes are a little pricy. See less

I have been a regular at Vileroy for the past 18 months (along with about a hundred others from my office) and no coffee beats theirs - they use South Australian jersey milk and just know how to make proper coffee. I have also had plenty of brunches and lunches there and on the whole all meals were delicious. I haven't tried dinner there yet but plan to as I've heard the meals are excellent. If you are there for cake and coffee try the choc apricot cream cheese slice - the chocolate is not overpowering and is also offset by the tartness of the dried apricots (proper ones, not those second rate overly sweet Turkish ones). It also has a cream-cheese-cake-like layer marbled through. The whole slice is light and fluffy not heavy at all - just totally scrummy - reminiscent of something your Grandma might have made but with a modern twist. Grant (the proprietor) always serves it warm. See less

Went once for dinner and once for breakfast and several times for coffee. The coffee is hit and miss at best. Sometimes good, sometimes very average. You'll find better and more consistent coffee over the road at The Black Olive. The breakfast was mostly reheated and was tough and bland. Dinner was half nice (the fresh half) and half not (the reheated half). I really wanted to like this place because it is so close. The staff are not particularly friendly but I could handle that if the food was really good. For lunches, definitely go to the Black Olive for some really great food. See less
