Always come back for wagyu, best wagyu bbq in Melbourne. Never go wrong with their food, the first time I tried Wagyu ya was 5 years ago. Since I had their bbq, I found there was no bbq restaurant would taste better than Wagyu ya ( I mean if you dont pay attention to the price). The cost of pp is $100-$300. But the taste is better than some of the $300 fine dining restaurant👌🏻🤣 See less

A place to visit at least once for the quality of the meats. You can select between Japanese or Australian wagyu or both. We tried the wagyu set which had a wide selection of both Au and Jp wagyu, from their award winning chuck roll, to the very delicious Omi Sirloin slice (I was too excited that I forgot to take a picture of it.) Service was very friendly and helpful and gave honest opinions on which set etc to select. Right in the middle of South Yarra, pretty much across the road from the train station, location wise is easy to get to through any means of transport. See less

I came here tonight to celebrate Valentine’s Day with my partner. Food is amazing, service is attentive. They have a special dessert which is called Strawberry Parfait. Honestly the best parfait I tried in my life so far! Must try!!! Ordered the tasting set for two people as well. Quality of wagyu is high, can never found this in Melbourne. See less

The food here is just outstanding! Not much else to say, other than that you will not be disappointed. Staff are extremely friendly and accommodating, and gave amazing recommendations for food/drink/dessert orders too. I see this being our go-to restaurant for all special occasions for many years to come, cannot recommend Wagyu-Ya enough. See less

VERY GOOD FOOD BUT A LITTLE PRICEY Wagyu Ya is a small restaurant in bustling South Yarra with a downstairs dining room plus an upstairs Japanese BBQ dining area. The food is very good and the menu wide enough to please most people - although vegetarians have few choices. Stand out dishes for me were the assorted sashimi platter ($60) and the refreshing wafu salad ($14). The restaurant is licenced and has a decent list of drinks to choose from. The service is OK but we did expect a bit more given the prices charged. (Four of us spent a total of $316 for food and sparkling water) There are both booth and free standing tables on the ground floor. Our booth table was relatively spacious and comfortable. People with mobility issues will struggle a bit as the entry door is a bit challenging and there isn't much space between tables. If you need a free standing table (i.e. with movable chairs) I'd recommend requesting in advance when booking. Unfortunately, the first floor BBQ area is accessible only via a narrow staircase. i paid $400 for a birthday meal with friends, but there were very expensive and salty dishes, The other thing that bothered me and will not come back, before i booked the table i asked for dessert or dessert to create atmosphere surprise for my friend but the restaurant didn't pay attention to the note I asked for when I booked the table, you let me down, and $400 for 2 people with very salty meat dishes, but didn't say sorry or Resolve to make customers happy, They could’ve offer me to have some compensations or discount at least. you will have customers. The image below it $400😀 I am willing to pay, but you are not willing to serve me in the best way I definitely won't come back. See less

Great selection of wagyu, lacking service. The $300 set menu is a great choice to get to experience all the different cuts, and to taste difference between Australian and Japanese wagyu. Highly recommend the Dassai 23 Junmai sake, great balance of acidity and sweetness. The only downside is that service is not consistent, our first hour we were given great attention but as the restaurant got busy, we were left alone, with meat on the table waiting for someone to start the cooking (or even tell us that we are meant to cook on our own). Pretty luxurious Japanese BBQ place. It’s really hard to find the restaurant where serves authentic high quality Japanese barbecue in Melbourne, so Wagyu Ya is definitely one of the good option to go. although I spent about $400 for two people it’s reasonable price to pay for these quality of meats. One thing that i couldn’t understand about is that they completely forgot to serve Miso soups where it should’ve served in the middle of the meal. So I asked what happened to the soup then they offered me Miso when i finish my meal and after they cleaned my table. They could’ve offer me to have some compensations or discount at least. See less

Amazing dining experience and friendly hospitality! The warm and accomodating staff welcome you as you first enter the restaurant with the soothing sounds of Jazz and blues playing in the background which sets the mood for the incredible meal The food at Wagyu Ya is impeccable to say the least. WOW!!! One of the finest place to eat Japanese BBQ. They serve high quality meats. Remind you that this is a premium place, so you would want to prepare high budget when eating here. Truly love how good their meats taste, it just melts in your mouth! Sadly they are not pocket friendly, so I couldn't really come back here often. But, it has always been a great night eating dinner here enjoying their fine quality meat. Five Stars! See less
