Risky rumballs. Recently tried some bakery treats from here when they visited the Gordon Primary School Electoral poll markets. I’d love to say some of their stuff looked great and tastes good but I could barely bring myself to try anything else after buying a pack of rum balls. Who would have thought my day of supporting locals would not only gift me a “democracy sausage” but a “rum ball repeat”. I got to taste one of these on the way down and back up almost immediately. What a Delight it was to be vomiting up into my kitchen sink (My reaction wasn’t from our choice of parties to vote for either). The rum balls I got with their price label perfectly placed over a use by date of 11/5/19.
7 days prior.... so let’s say they were at least 2 weeks old. Then I look at the ingredients... egg. Now I’m no cook but I’ve made my fair share of rum balls and I don’t ever recall using egg because you don’t usually cook them. This bakery sold two week old possibly raw egg rum balls that were sitting out on a hot market stall table and knew it so they covered the date with a price tag. That practice is just about as disgusting as the taste left in my mouth by your food.
Almost forgivable if it was a one time oversight but since that day I’ve heard I was lucky, another persons packet use by 25/4/19, again perfectly covered by the price tag. Thank god this bakery is quite the distance from Gordon, I’ll try closer to home for a nice place and skip the side of salmonella. See less
