Ambience, view and service were excellent. Food exquisite. Perfectly seasoned so that there was no need to reach for salt and pepper. Very highly recommended for that special occasion. See less

My lovely husband took me to The whalebone restaurant in Port Macquarie for a celebration of my upcoming new job starting next week. What an amazing dining experience. They have rebuilt after the floods. We had the seafood platter which arrived over 2 courses. I started with a mango belini cocktail whilst Greg tried a local Kempsey beer with mandarin. A beautiful light cassegrain rose with a extraordinary luncheon, followed by dessert. I had a orange lindseed creme brulee, and greg had home made strawberry and cointreau ice cream, ending with expresso martinis on tge pontoon. Amazing staff, amazing food, spectacular afternoon See less

Delicious seafood with attentive but not over the top service. We had the best seat in the restaurant and it was a great afternoon and did not feel rushed at all. Enjoyed the scallop special for entree and the barramundi with extra prawns for a main. The price of the main includes a side which is served separately so you can share with the table. We got the brussel sprouts, roasted pumpkin and my dad couldn't resist the hot chips. Highly recommended! See less

Go for an early session so you get the sunset. Awesome flavour combinations in the sides, and the mains were pretty good too 😉 See less

Impressed by the quality of the food. Every dishes was 10/10. Especially loved the special fish of the day which is perfectly cooked. Appreciation to the head chef and all the team members. Attentive services as well as reasonable price. Really enjoyed our lunch in here with a wonderful sea view to go along. Looking forward to our next visit while we are in the area. See less

We were so excited to go to the Whalebone.... But what a disappointment. We were in the backroom. It was full of bugs and critters...not small ones either. The most disappointing part was the staff attitude and comments. We expressed our discontent various times and asked to be moved to the main area and were continually told that bugs were part of the deal..... 'a few bugs won't kill you' was the comment from the CHEF!!!!! That's a concern..... We ended up paying for what drinks we had consumed and walked out. The only bug I want at a seafood restaurant are the ones from Balmain. Very dissatisfied See less

The fish was well cooked and tasted great but the food was exceptionally overpriced and the portions were woefully small. $42 got a tiny serve of fish (160 grams I was told) and a side of undercooked Chat Potatoes. I opted to add prawns for $10 and was exceptionally disappointed at the addition of two average sized prawns to my plate. When we raised our concerns to staff the manager came to speak to us and was extremely dismissive of our concerns and disappointment. Genuinely one of the most disappointing and worst dining experiences I've ever had. Save your time and money and go to the local fish and chip shop, you'll have a more satisfying meal for far cheaper. See less

Fine dining with views, a reasonable price and leaves you with a full belly. we had to wait a little while at the bar while they cleaned our table, but it was well worth it as we sat by the water and watched pelicans eat fish all night. We ordered too much, but thoroughly enjoyed the seafood chowder (we shared oysters and a main size for entree), and the flathead was amazing. Drinks were well priced. Went back in Jan-21. Still awesome, service is good and so is the food, shared oysters and a main chowder for entree. Loved Moore's brewing company (from Port Macquarie) passionfruit beer, we had a crumbed and batters long with greens and the pumpkin sides. See less

Great food let down by poor service, seafood platter for two was excellent although it was not made clear at first it was served as two courses which made it seem very small. No apologies when clarified. Missed many opportunities to aske if we wanted more drinks or serve extra waters. I would expect much better service at this price. See less

Another must eat at place in Port Macquarie. The restaurant has a good atmosphere and location that lends itself to a relaxed but great dining experience. The service was good and all the dishes were very yummy, of a good size and reasonably priced. The oysters are a must try. See less

This seafood restaurant is amazing. We ordered some natural oysters which were deliciously fresh. For mains me and my husband both ordered the fish of the day being swordfish and we were both extremely happy with our choice, it was cooked so well. I ordered the king prawns as an extra and the greens as my side. For dessert, I ordered the Dark Chocolate Cremeux which was quite tasty. My husband ordered the seasonal cheese board which he enjoyed but a little disappointed it only came with one kind of cheese. Overall we both loved having dinner here, it was a great atmosphere and the staff were friendly and attentive. I would say this is a must visit place but be prepared to spend a bit of money. See less
