I thought I probably would never get to eat such authentic Chinese food again until I came to Wu Yu. True to its restaurant’s name, each dish was done without making any compromise to western taste. I have been to the restaurant twice now. Each dish we ordered was fresh, delicious and presented so well. I feel like I have never left China when I eat at Wu Yu. It brings so many good memories back with that beautiful, elegant and exquisite taste i get in each dish. I appreciate the owner being so true to the regions’ cuisine (shanghai, zhejiang, jiangsu). It’s so refreshing to see such authenticity being maintained in a restaurant business. See less

Putting aside the fact that the door of this restaurant is perennially shut and you never know when it’s open, the food is decent. Today is our lucky day and when we pushed the door and it opened, unlike the two previous attempts. However, the servings are very small for the given price. The quality of the food is decent, but it is not justified by the overpricing. See less

Shanghainese beyond noodles and dumplings and something different from tge big standard Cantonese fare - but do yourself a favour and check it out! Seafood is amazing and the prawns were astounding - fresh and very tasty! See less

As Chinese who's from the region that includes Shanghai and its neighbouring provinces, WuYu is a very authentic restaurant. You won't see sweet sour pork or Mongolia beef (sorry but not sorry 😜), instead you'll find more subtle and truthful representations of what real Chinese food is like. A gem among the few regional Chinese restaurants in Canberra! See less

Traditional Chinese dishes done right! Not your regular Asian restaurant. They had a wide variety of dishes I had not come across before which were absolutely delicous. The serving sizes were also very generous. We ordered three dishes between two of us and only got through one and a half before feeling full. For reference we usually order 4+ dishes and devour it all. Staff were friendly, accomdating and amazing and were more than happy to share some of the cultural history behind the dishes. We also got a free fruit platter for dessert. Cannot recommend highly enough. Will definately be back again. See less

I discovered this place by accident tonight. It's upstairs from Ruby's where the buffet restaurant used to be. When I first looked upstairs and saw the beautiful setting, I was amazed. To my surprise and delight, the prices were reasonable and the food was even better. The lady in charge told me that the aim of the restaurant is to provide classical Chinese food the way it tastes in China, not modified to suit Western palates. And they try to use the best Australian fresh produce they can. They are hitting their target; tonight's meal was the best Chinese food I've ever tasted. It is the only restaurant serving this Shanghai/Jiangsu/Zheijang type of Chinese cuisine in Canberra. Give it a try - you won't be disappointed! See less

Fantastic Shanghai cuisines in Canberra, unlike most other Chinese restaurants serving generic dishes. Natural flavours and not overly or artificially enhanced. Would love to return and try out many other dishes. See less

Great traditional Chinese regional cuisine. A lot of dishes cannot be found in any restaurants in Canberra. Had a family dinner with parents and kids. Parents extremely happy with the food as the are really authentic east china cuisine. This restaurant do not use any MSG at all. Will definitely come back regularly. See less
