One of the best, if not the best restaurants I have been to in Australia! The food was so fresh and presented beautifully, and the cocktail I had was the best cocktail I've tasted. ("shiso pretty" is the name of the cocktail) My partner and I got the $90pp set meal which had 9 delicious courses, including sashimi and wagyu beef, and the desserts were unique unlike anything we've ever tasted before! I highly recommend trying Yamagen if you haven't already. See less

This was some seriously good food. We opted for an omakase menu with a few extra additions, and it was the perfect amount of food. The dishes were nicely spaced, and we couldn’t fault a thing. I highly recommend the matched sake option! See less

We went here for an anniversary dinner in April & it was absolutely amazing. Some of the best food we have ever eaten. We did the Omosake tasting menu with the wine pairing and every dish was an absolute treat. It’s a bit pricey but definitely worth it for a special occasion, and the staff are lovely. Great food and table service but Yamagen let me down with the seating arrangements. Booked well in advance to organise a nice table for a special occasion, was assured it several times but when the day came, we were just plonked in the middle, and when I complained, no valid reason was given. So why even bother asking for it? Other than that, food was excellent and Zoe's service was outstanding. We had the $120 set menu and sake, plating was lovely and food tasted good. See less

Wow! Wow! Wow! What an amazing Japanese dining experience with ever dish more delicious than the rest. If you’re a visitor to Surfers Paradise or a GC local, I would encourage you to experience this amazing food at least once as the flavours are just stunning! Items not to miss are the thinly slides snapper, the Wagyu beef robata and Crisp pork belly with Nashi pear, wasabi, watermelon radish, smoked vinegar. Definitely a foodie must visit. See less

Definitely one of our favourites and we go back again and again and are never disappointed. The food is amazing. Modern Japanese. The cocktail are innovative with a Japanese twist. It’s a bit expensive for the serving sizes but totally worth the effort. Great fun for a date or a group meal. Make sure to book in advance as this place is always busy. Highly recommended. See less
