This place is a shambles. If you order any of the take away/delivery options you will be waiting forever (double what they tell you, as a minimum) and your food will likely be cold. Granted their food is good but they don't know how to organise a process and forget that the goal is actually getting the food to the customer, not just taking the order See less

Nothing special about this place, they couldn't get the dumplings right. I thought they specialised in making dumplings....hence the name. My dumplings tasted like rubber, just an hour after buying them. I must've had dumplings that were frozen for a while. They've certainly lost my business! See less

We are regular customers here at Yat Bun Tong, but our recent experience was awful. We ordered and waited approximately an hour for our food to arrive when it usually takes 20 mins. 45 minutes in, we asked the waiter who took our order about our food and they said they forgot to put our order in. 15 minutes later we received our food but it was rushed. The brisket noodle was lukewarm as if it was sitting in the back all day, all the pan fried dumplings were all stuck together, and the spinach was clumsily piled on the dish. We complained and no staff came to apologise. When we went to the till, I talked to the manager and he wasn't even apologetic at all. As if he didn't care about the quality of service. He just replied with "Okay, I'll give you a discount." We got $6.80 back when the total was $136.40. A 5% discount! Its absolutely unfair what they gave us, they served 3 other tables and made us wait a bloody hour because some waiter forgot to put our order in. It's a shame, the food tasted okay but the whole experience was spoiled after the terrible customer service. Unbelievable. Edit: Eat here if you like terrible customer service and bad food. See less

Terrible service and overpriced, underwhelming food. Order took almost twice as long as advised on the phone, despite it being a quiet night. When I arrived manager/head chef (I assume) was in the kitchen berating the staff, with his face mask down under his chin the whole time. The front of house staff couldn't tell me how long my order would be throughout the whole wait and were disinterested and unapologetic. The fried rice just looked and tasted like boiled white rice with bits in it - not a hint of fried flavour or soy sauce. The chow mein was bland and watery. The shallot pancake was probably the worst ever - somehow simultaneously undercooked, oily and dried out at the same time and with maybe 3 green flecs to represent the shallots. I don't think I've ever thrown food out in my life but the shallot pancake legit tasted like cardboard and I couldn't eat it. The honey prawns were very nice though. Maybe they're under new management because they used to be quite good, but I definitely wouldn't recommend Yat Bun Tong Belco as it is at the moment. See less

Used to be a great restaurant however the change in staff has really let it down. It really is a hit or miss experience these days, with a much higher likelyhood of missing. For our recent visit, some dishes came out warm and had obviously been sitting for a while as they arrived on our table within a minute of ordering(????). Must have been dishes that were sent back from another table? Kitchen refused to acknowledge a clear issue with a dish (they eventually agreed and swapped), and the manager was unbelievably rude when it came time to pay. The manager demanded that we pay in cash, and proceeded to snatch a bank card out of my hand and tapped it for payment before I worked out which one to use. Really really disappointing and an insult to what was once a fantastic restaurant and chain. Unfortunately we won't be returning unless management changes. Take your money elsewhere, plenty of other deserving restaurants in the area who are consistent with quality and customer service. See less

Fairly quick service and very delicious food. I had the pan fried pork buns, steamed pork buns and beef brisket hotpot recently and they were all very delicious. We walked in on a Saturday night when they were relatively busy and packed but were still able to provide us with a table for two. See less

Dumplings are good. Fine to eat in but forget about trying to get delivery. Of the last three attempts one did not turn up at all, and one was an hour late - with most of that time the driver waiting at the restaurant for the food to be prepared. See less

Great flavour, huge choice of food, and these guys are constantly busy for eat-in and takeaway. We had the pork and chives dumplings and the combination dumplings which are chicken, beef and vegetable. The pork or and chives were great - not overly fragrant like some places so, and the flavour of the pork was great. Dunk these in chilli sauce and soy, and you've got a party going on in your mouth. Best of all, they give you 15 dumplings for the price! A full meal for one or a great share option! The combination dumplings were good except for the beef - they are surrounded in some kind of wet soupy sauce which left a bit of a tangy aftertaste that we didn't like. The chicken and vegetable dumplings were fantastic. Again, you get 15 dumplings in this option (5 of each). The rest of the menu looks great too. Lots of people shoot for fried rice, and the servings are massive. You just can't go wrong here, and with two locations in the City and at Belconnen, you have them at arms length whenever you want them. Bookings to eat in are not essential, but highly recommended. The Chinese food here is the best in Canberra. The pan fried steamed bun was great as the traditional Shanghai style. The fried rice cake is another reason I want to come again. Really love this place and I will try other dish next time. See less
