La Glanz Restaurant in Noble Park

The name is definitely not Malay, and therefore my wife and I nearly walked away until we saw some men who looked like Malays were outside chatting.
I am still wondering whether it is a Cafe or restaurant. The stunning red highlight wall and ambience are OK to make it a restaurant, but the way the food is served very much like a hawker stall or warung in Malaysia.
The boss lady and staff are friendly, the display of food in baine marie is passable, the curries and sambal taste good. The positives end here.
The price is higher than comparable restaurants / cafes I have been to. When the food is brought to the table, I am not very impressed by the presentation. Everything, two meats and one vegetable with rice, an egg, sambal, and ikan bilis, buries the poor coconut rice completely. The green plate plate is too small, and the generous gravies makes it difficult to identify the the different components and flavours.
To remedy this, a bigger oval shape plate, which probably costs a dollar two more, will improve the presentation and change my perception.
The beef and egg plant pieces are cut too small, and the redang beef can be cooked to a bit more tender.
I have no more room for the kuihs. They are not made inhouse, but from an external supplier.
In short, the quality and presentation are very much like "backhome" cafe or food court.
However, on the positive note, the various curries and gravies are flavoursome, and the service is good. See less
